Competed in horse jumping throughout my youth. When, how and why did you start CrossFit? I started in a pretty classic way three years ago, by getting dragged into a “WOD”. I totally exhausted myself during the first of five laps and then I had to crawl to the finish line. I was completely exhausted and still couldn’t do anything but think about the next session! Learn moreMathias Jepson
Name: Mathias Jepson Age: 23 years old City: Borås Home Box: Reebok CrossFit Onyx Facebook: facebook.com/mathias.jepson Instagram: @jepson Do you have a sporting background? Throughout my childhood, I played football in several clubs, but put my shoes on the shelf when I was 14. I traded football for the gym where I spent my afternoons 4-5 times a week for almost 5 years. When, how and why did you start CrossFit? As I said, I already trained a lot at the gym and one day about four years ago I was dragged along to a real CrossFit session where I was exposed to a variation of “The Seven”. You could think that it was the first and last time I did CrossFit. Despite a completely pumped up body that lay on the floor for probably 30 minutes with a blank look staring straight up at the ceiling, I still felt: What the hell am I doing when I train? This was real training for me. Coming to the gym, or the box in this case, and giving it my all so that you felt completely finished afterwards. After this session, I was, to say the least, stuck in the world of CrossFit and have only trained CrossFit since then. What are your goals in CrossFit? My big goal in CrossFit is to qualify for Regionals. But I also find just as much joy in traveling around Sweden and Europe with my training buddies and best friends to participate in many other big competitions. What do you do when you're not training and competing? When I'm not training and competing, I'm studying full-time to get a Master of Business Administration. I also work in parallel with accounting at PwC Sweden AB and am Head Coach at CrossFit Onyx in Borås. What does a typical training week look like? A typical training week usually consists of ten training sessions with two rest days. The training schedule varies slightly depending on the season I am in, but I usually do cardio in the morning and strength in the afternoon. During the off-season, the workouts are more focused on strength, and during the on-season, there is a greater focus on cardio and lactic acid training. What is your biggest CrossFit success? The biggest achievement I have achieved in CrossFit so far is my individual achievement of competing in The Athlete Games in England. In addition, I have competed as a team with Team Onyx in the French Throwdown where we placed fourth among many Games and Regional teams. Do you have any role models in sports? A bit cliché perhaps, but Rich Froning is the person I look up to the most in sports. Not only for his credentials, but for his way of being as an athlete and person. He is serious as soon as he steps into the arena when it matters and no one can beat his ability to use the right amount of energy in relation to his opponents. He can also be that person who is both funny, humble and caring outside of training and competition that people want to be around. I think that is something to emulate. What is your biggest vice? My biggest vice is definitely legless rope climbs. Talk about a crappy workout, haha! What is your favorite WOD? My favorite WOD is Fran. As sick as it sounds and as painful as it is, those two minutes or so can make you feel more alive than ever. Even for the next day or so when you walk around with a Fran cough that resembles the worst heavy smoker's. What do you like best about CLN Athletics products? CLN Athletics has taken training clothes to the next level for me. CLN has managed to combine a really stylish design, with a design and material that suits the really hard training athlete and that never feels in the way, which I often experienced before. What are your favorite products from CLN? My favorite pieces are definitely the CLN Compression Tights, CLN Rapid Shorts and CLN Ultra Shorts. These pieces are exactly what I mentioned when you manage to combine a stylish design with a great fit and material. You almost feel like you're not wearing anything, without feeling naked of course ;)

My goal is to make it to The CrossFit Games 2016 and to win all the other competitions in Europe I compete in. What do you do when you're not training and competing? What is your biggest CrossFit success? My biggest CrossFit success is probably winning the Turkish Throwdown in 2015 and winning the German Throwdown in 2014. Do you have any role models in sports? I don't have a specific athlete as a role model, but I find it incredibly fun to see all the members' progress in boxing, so they are my role models. What is your biggest vice? No! What is your favorite WOD? I just LOVE the "Nancy" workout - 5 laps for time with 400m run and 15 OHS 43 kg. It's made for me. What do you like best about CLN Athletics products? CLN's products are the best clothing on the market for CrossFit athletes. They are developed by CrossFit athletes and have a material that withstands an incredible amount of friction and transports sweat away in an outstanding way. What are your favorite products from CLN? The Rapid shorts are absolutely my favorite piece of clothing. Lightweight shorts that can withstand a lot.
