What material is best for workout clothes?

When choosing materials for workout clothing, you should consider several factors, including comfort, moisture wicking, temperature regulation, and freedom of movement. Below are some common material choices and their properties.

Cotton

  • Pros: Cotton is soft and comfortable to wear. It's also breathable and absorbs moisture well, making it suitable for less intense workouts or everyday wear.
  • Cons: Cotton tends to retain moisture, which can make it feel heavy and sticky during intense workouts. It also has poor insulation properties when wet, which can be problematic in cold weather.

  • Polyester

    • Pros: Polyester is lightweight and has excellent moisture wicking properties, helping to keep you dry during intense workouts. It's also quick-drying and holds its shape well.
    • Cons: Some people may find polyester to be less comfortable against the skin than cotton, and it can also start to smell more easily if not cared for properly.

    • Nylon

      • Pros: Nylon is durable and hard-wearing, making it ideal for high-wear workout clothes. It's also quick-drying and moisture-wicking.
      • Cons: Nylon can be less breathable than other materials and can sometimes feel less comfortable against the skin if not combined with other fabrics.

      • Bamboo

        • Benefits: A big plus of bamboo workout clothes is their eco-friendly nature. Bamboo is a fast-growing plant that doesn't require pesticides or fertilizers, and it can be grown with minimal water. This makes bamboo a sustainable and ecological alternative for workout clothes. It's also thermo-regulating and doesn't start to smell quickly.
        • Disadvantages: Bamboo can be sensitive to abrasion. Bamboo fibers can wear down faster than some other materials, especially if exposed to a lot of friction. Therefore, we recommend that you always mix it with e.g. cotton and spandex, as we do at CLN Athletics.

        • Spandex

          • Benefits: Spandex is highly elastic and allows for good freedom of movement. It is often used as a complement to other materials to provide stretch in workout clothing.
          • Cons: Spandex in high amounts can make the fabric feel less breathable, and it can also lose its elasticity over time.

          • The best material for your workout clothes depends on your workout style, your preferences and the weather conditions. CLN Athletics workout clothes are made from a blend of different materials to take advantage of their different properties. It is important to try different materials and styles to find what suits you best and provides optimal comfort and performance during your workout.
